Arman, wood craftsman at Knock on Wood

Several years ago, Arman discovered a real passion for woodworking, a passion – meditative in nature – that quickly became the core of his business. After leaving his job in communications to devote himself fully to this new path, he joined Knock on Wood and, with founder Zsuzsanna, launched their second workshop in Lausanne, a project which today enables him to make a living from his love of woodworking.

Through workshops, Arman, Hannes and the project’s other instructors explore the world of wood. The aim is simple: to pass on know-how, awaken the imagination, and offer each participant an enriching experience – whether he or she leaves with a new object or a precious souvenir of their visit.

Workshop content and product to be manufactured

During this 2h30 workshop, get ready to play with wood like a real craftsman!

Armed with your tools, you’ll discover how to transform a simple plank of wood into a unique object. You start by using the jointer-planer, an impressive tool that makes the wood smooth and ready for use. Then, under the instructor’s guidance, you’ll use the router to make the grooves that will accommodate the decorative inlay and feet of your board.

Once the inlay has been laid, it’s time to let it dry and take a well-deserved break. Next, you carefully clean the“living edge” of the wood, that natural part with the bark, before running the board under the planer to refine the details. Finally, you glue the legs and apply an oil finish to protect and enhance your creation.

At the end of the workshop, leave with your own wooden aperitif board, ready to be emulated at your next aperitif!
